With supply still far behind demand, prices on Radeon 5850 and 5870 cards have continued to trickle up. Newegg currently lists 5850 cards at prices starting at $309.99, and quickly going up from there for factory OC'ed boards. This reference-based PowerColor 5850 card is actually in stock now and can be purchased for $309.99. Other retailers like TigerDirect and NCIX US don't even have 5850 cards in stock, while Zipzoomfly has multiple boards in stock, but you'll have to fork over $360 to get one.
Last month 5850's sold for around $300, so prices have increased another $10 from 30 days ago. Keep in mind that the card originally launched with a $259 price tag.
Want a Radeon 5870? The situation doesn't improve much for this GPU either. Newegg pricing starts at $409.99, with OC'ed cards selling for as high as $439.99. Believe it or not, Zipzoom is charging $570 for their only 5870 board in stock, and it isn't even OC'ed!
A month ago a bone stock 5870 sold for $399, and Sapphire's 5870 Vapor-X went for $409. Today the same Vapor-X card sells for $429. On launch day the Radeon 5870 sold for $379, so street prices have increased by $30 since then.
5970 prices have also gone up, although no one seems to have cards in stock.
Unfortunately, the GPU shortage is expected to last into next year. Until TSMC can improve their yields at 40-nm, picking up a high-end DX11 card is going to be tough for the average gamer.
