Just Went through this quest myself and found it very interesting, here is how I finished it:
First join the Dark Brotherhood by murduring a civilian, I killed mine during a quest called Paranoia in Skingrad, since this person dies anyway at the end of the quest.
After joining the Dark Brotherhood, you get access to their Sanctury. In the Sanctury you will find a member who is actually a vampire, and he is your contract giver and will also give you the lead to finding a cure.
After talking to this guy goto the Arcane university and talk with a mage there, who will tell you to seek the Count of Skingrad, who is actually a vampire searching for a cure for his wife.
The Count will then send you to a witch in the wilderness, who first asks you to find 5 Empty grand soulstones. The mages guild in Chorrol has quite a few of these, and if you join the guild you can lockpick the displace cases without anyone aggroing you. The first floor of the tower directly inside the Arcane University district in the Imperial city also has a Grand Soul Stone but locked. One of the mages in the Skingrad mage guild carries one on her. I ended up with quite a few of these and some werent not empty, so I dont remember which one of the above locations are actually empty Soulstones. Also my character is a thief/assasin build so it was really easy for me to steal/lockpick these.
The next thing the witch will tell you to do is get 6 garlics 2 bloodgrass, 5 nightshades, ash of a powerful vampire, and blood of an Argonian. Make sure you ask the witch about each individual thing because that will update your quest so you can actually continue, especially the location of the vampire and the knife needed to get Argonian blood.
The Chemistry shop (Main Ingredients or some name like that) in the market district in the imperial city has most of the plant ingredients. The bloodgrass is very common in oblivion zones if you wanna harvest yourself. Garlic can also be found in the chemistry shop in Skingrad, and the basment of the mage guild in Skingrad. Garlic should be pretty common just lying around in kitchens/basements etc. I donno where to harvest nightshades, so I just bought mine from shop, the one in Market District had plenty enough in my game.
Then you need Argonian blood, this is actually very easy to get. Just goto the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary and stab an Argonian with the knife that the witch gave you. As soon as you stab the quest will update and you can use BLOCK and ACTION key on the target to yield (cancel) the fight. This way does not hurt their reaction rating toward you at all, and everyone in the Sanctuary has maxed 100 reaction rating toward you anyway. You wont get kicked out of the guild either. Trying to do this in town will get the guards on your ass even if you are behind locked doors for somereason, and will significantly drop the target's reaction rating towards you.
Lastly you gotta goto the location of the vampire, it is very far in the wild. Make sure to bring some weapons WITH MAGICAL affects, because there will be some ghosts immune to normal weapons in the dungeon. It might also be a good idea to wait/sleep yourself until you have 100% vampirism so you get huge combat bonuses when fighting monsters in here, because they can be pretty tough. Save your vampire dusts off regular vampires, they can be turned in to the Virtuous Blood society (if you've done this quest) in Temple District of Imperial City for 250g a piece.
After you've managed to kill the ancient vampire, return to the witch with all the ingredients and she will give you the cure. 2 samples actually one for you and the other you can return to the Count in Skingrad for a 1000 gold reward. The witch can also make your future cures (I understood this from what she said, but havent tried it yet).
I thought this was a quite interesting quest and got some decent loot from the vampire cave and quite a bit of cash. But i think having the vampire buff actually makes you a lot more powerful, the only annoyance is you have to feed every other time you rest/wait so you keep your vampirism at 25% thus you dont suffer sun damage. But feeding is easy if you are a part of any guild, just goto the guild house and wait till everyone sleeps and feed on anyone without consequences. Also your vampirism % never seem to increase UNLESS you wait or sleep.
