Research center in Bangalore extends
In the Indian High Tech metropolis Bangalore opened AMD CEO Hector Ruiz a new research center of the chip manufacturer. In the new building approximately 350 coworkers are to work on processor Designs. In addition counts also the first 45-Nanometer-Prozessor of AMD.
Already for six years AMD is active in India, the research center in Bangalore is however a new building, not only an extension of the past building. Also future coworkers are to find on that approximately 4,800 square meter place. The new research center is to serve for developments of semiconductor Designs and platforms.
The current project in Bangalore is the Barcelona successor Shanghai, a Quad core processor with K10-Architektur, which will be AMDs first product in 45 nanometers structure width. Shanghai is expected after the past Roadmaps for center 2008. At present engineers are busy according to AMD with the testing of the Design and the optimization, a "Tape Out" - the first step for quantity production - obviously yet did not take place. As AMD communicated now, the Indian developers were also considerably involved in the Design of the Barcelona core.
The past building in Bangalore wants to keep AMD, in order to accommodate the administration of the location and marketing personnel there. India is for the semiconductor manufacturer an important growth market, then in the allocation of world of AMD from the region "EMEA" (Europe, the Near East and Africa) became the region "EMEAI" - with a "I" for India.
